The Fall of the Vedic Culture

Lot of men of learning got killed in the great war of Mahabharta about 5000 years ago. Thus the study of the Vedic literature and religion became extinct. The Braahmans went without education. Then you can understand the plight of the Kshatriyas and Vaishyas. The tradition of studying the Vedas came to a close. The Braahmans only learnt the Vedas by note - just enough to enable them to earn their livelihood. Even that much they did not teach to the Kshatriyas, and others.

The Braahmans thought that they should make some arrangement for their livelihood. They held a council among themselves and agreed to preach to the Kshatriyas and others, and declared that,

"We alone are the object of worship to you. You could never enter Heaven or obtain salvation except by serving us. If you do not serve us, you shall fall into a miserable Hell."

The Vedas and Shastras have declared that men of learning who have studied the Vedas to be worthy of respect but not hypocritical, selfish, ignorant men.

When the Kshatriyas and others became totally ignorant of Sanskrit, they humbly accepted whatever these so called Braahmans preached. These ignorant Braahmans started to say,

"Brhama Vakyam Janardana ( ब्रह्म वाक्यं जनार्दन )"  that is, whatever comes out of the mouth of the Braahmana should be regarded as if it has come out of the mouth of God.

When Kshatriyas and others got duped, these Braahmans got a golden opportunity for enjoyment. They declared that whatever excellent things are made in this world, are all for the use of the Braahmans. They went even so far as to say, "We are lords of the earth. No one can enter Heaven without serving us." The so-called Braahmans of the present day say the same thing. They subverted the whole caste system which was supposed to be based on qualification into mere accident of birth.

If someone were to ask these Braahmans, where will they go after death? They became enraged and said we shall curse you and you will perish. This statement may be true if someone insults a person who is a learned of the Vedas, who is righteous and devoted to the welfare of mankind, but not to these ignorant, selfish, hypocritical called Braahmans.

This same thing is happening in India even in present times. There are 600,000 temples in India. If you go to any temple other than Arya Samaj, most likely the priest there will not be knowing Sanskrit  nor he has read any Vedas. So they are preaching their ignorance to the population, whatever they learned from their fathers or head priests. The result is we are worshipping 33 crore devis and devtas. In Veda, God says worship him alone and no one else is even worthy of worship. So we are not following the Vedas and thus committing a grave sin.

Swami Sampurnanad Ji gave us an example of one of these so called Braahmans, in one of his sermons in New York. He once went to attend a wedding in India. The priest there was reciting the mantras that should be recited in a death ceremony. Afterwards when Swami ji told him, he touched Swami ji’s feet and begged that he should not tell this to the families. He told Swami ji that these mantras were given to him by his father. Swami ji gave him a copy of the Sanskar Vidhi written by Mahrishi Dayanand and asked him to follow this for any future ceremonies.
