Week 1 | Week 2

These popes (false Braahmans) who had read a little about performing ritual ceremonies, declared before the kings and rulers, it was unlawful to punish a Braahman and Sadhu. “Let no Braahman or Sadhu be killed”. They also wrote books containing false statements and passed them as if written by Vedic seers. Thus they succeeded in getting out of the reach of the law and did whatever they liked.

This evil took root 1000 years before the great war of Mahabhartaa. Although Vedic seers existed at that time, the seeds of laziness, mutual jealousy, hatred had sprouted a little and became full grown trees later on. When the true preaching stopped, then ignorance spread and the people starting fighting with each other.

Sankhayadarshan 3:79,81 declares,

“When preachers of highest quality are found in a country then Dharma, Wealth, Noble Desires and Salvation are attainable. When good preachers and good listeners do not exist, then, bad traditions (अन्ध परम्परा) will start. When good preachers are born who preach the truth, then these bad traditions will stop and light of truth will begin to shine”

These popes brought the people under their subjugation.  These popes started to eat meat and drink wine secretly and indulged in sensuality.

THE SECT OF VAAM MARGIS

From these popes arose a sect called Vaam Margis, whose followers wrote books called Tantras, in which various statements were made like, Shiva said, Parvati said, Bhairava said. In such books is written strange things like,

"(Madya) wine, (Mansa) meat, (Meena) fish, (Mudra-cakes), (Maithuna) copulation, all these five beginning with the letter M lead to salvation in all ages." KALITANTRA.

"He, who drinks and drinks and drinks till he falls to the ground, gets up and again drinks, shall never be born again." MAHANIRMANA TANTRA.

"Excepting his mother let a man have intimacy with all women. The Vedaas and the Shastras and other ancient books are like prostitutes. But the Saambhavi Mudra is like a lady of high birth who lives in privacy." JNANA SANKALANI TANTRA.

These Vaam Margis in their rituals, will meet in a secret place, drink wine, strip themselves naked and do all sorts of bad things.

Word Vaam means Opposite. Marg means Path. Thus Vaam Margis followed a path opposite to the Vedas, Whatever Vedas consider to be highly sinful, Vaam Margis consider it to be virtuous.

Later on when their religion spread out in India, they introduced other evil practices saying in the name of the Vedas. For example, सॊत्रामणयां सुरां पिबेत् Which they interpreted as, “Let a man drink wine (sura) in the Sautramani Yajna”. This really means that let a man drink the juice of a Soma Creeper (plant) in Sautramani Yajna.

They introduced other terms like, “Let a man eat meat in a Yajna. A slaughter ceases to be slaughter when this is done in a Vedic Yajna.”

Vaam Margis should be asked if a slaughter ceases to be a slaughter in a Yajna, then, what harm will be done if one of their family members is slaughtered and offered in the Yajna.

Animal Sacrifice in a Yajna

They interpolated these and similar verses as the works of the great sages. They wrote books in the name of the great sages and introduced the terms Ashwamedha, Gomedha and Narmedha as having being taken from the Vedas. They declared that by offering the animal sacrifice in a Yajna, both the animal and the Yajamaana (host of the Yajna) went to heaven.

They interpreted Ashwamedha as (Ashwa as horse + Medha to kill), that is sacrifice of a horse in the Yajna. Similarly they interprested Gomedha as sacrifice of a cow and Narmedha as sacrifice of a human.

Question: What are the true meanings of the Ashwamedha, Gomedha and Narmedha.

Answer:

Ashwamedha: A king should rule the nation justly and righteously, a learned man giving free gift of knowledge to its people and perform yajna by pouring oblation of clarified butter.

Gomedha: The word “Go” in Sanskrit means grains, indriyas (senses), rays, and earth. Thus meaning of Gomedha is, to keep the food pure, keep senses under control, make good use of the rays of the sun and keep the earth clean environmentally.

Narmedha: The cremation of the body of a dead person in accordance with the principles laid down in the Vedas.

One should ask these Vaam Margis, if an animal goes to heaven when sacrificed in a Yajna, why not sacrifice your relatives as they will then also straight away go to heaven.

Even in this modern age, there are still temples in India where animal sacrifice is still being done to appease a particular deity.

One of my colleagues had gone to visit Nepal few years back. She went to see a temple (I think Pashupati Temple). They were not allowed in as they were not Hindus. Bu they were told that animal sacrifice is done in this temple and this practice originated from India.
